From June through September no rain falls, except by miracle. The area around the Sea of Galilee is hot, though cooled by a strong west wind every afternoon. The areas of the Dead Sea and Eilat  are beastly: we go from shade to shade. The coast is humid. In Jerusalem and Bethlehem (i.e., on the mountain) the nights are cool. Elsewhere one needs air-conditioning. (The buses and most hotels are air-conditioned, of course.) Drink lots of water (we recommend mineral water) and wear a hat. Avoid long hikes in the desert.

In April-May the weather is topsy-turvy, though never cold.

October through March, our so-called "winter" or "rainy season," is a beautiful time, with marvelous flora and sterling visibility except when you have to peer through raindrops (which happens on average one out of three days). If you can keep your program flexible, this is a wonderful time to come. The shorter daylight hours keep the guide from expatiating. One caution, however: air travelers tend to carry their winter illnesses with them, especially in February, so keep your resistance up and, if appropriate, get a flu shot well in advance of the trip.
