This British explorer received permission from the Turkish Sultan to dig shafts and tunnels around the Haram (Temple Mount) to study its structure. His work took place from 1867 till 1870. Warren's meticulous drawings and descriptions are still our only source of information for many areas. In his later career, as British police chief, he sought less successfully to catch Jack the Ripper.
