A Roman Catholic Order. Unlike most Orders, the Carmelites have no founder. They began as hermits on Mt. Carmel during the Crusader period. They look to the active Elijah and to the contemplative Mary, mother of Jesus, for inspiration: two people who struggled with fear and faced severe trials.
