What to bring: a partial checklist
- Travel documents, plus copies stashed in a separate place. The copies will not be valid, but they can help you replace lost documents.
- Travel health insurance, including provision for escorted transportation home.
- A sun hat. In winter: rain gear, as well as warm clothing for standing on windy hills. Umbrellas are not much help with a group, because they impede visibility for those behind them.
- Shoes with good profile for walking or hiking.
- Bathing suit. (You may decide, after all, to try the Dead Sea!)
- Modest dress, covering the legs to below the knee, as well as the shoulders, for both sexes. This is necessary for entry to holy sites.
- Medicines and pharmaceutical supplies, including sunscreen and lip balm. (Our routes do not take us near pharmacies every day, and in any case, these will not honor prescriptions from abroad.)
- Sunglasses and sun block.
- Much more photo capacity than you think you'll need. Extra batteries for the camera.
- Hand laundry soap. Hotel laundry services are expensive.
- Mosquito repellent
- Flashlight
- If your itinerary includes Hezekiah's tunnel, bring footwear for walking in water. Old tennis shoes or "jellies" will do. It must be such that the current won't sweep it away.
- Bible
- Notebook and pen
